Inclusion

INCLUSION

At HideOut, we ensure our youth provision is inclusive, supports community cohesion, and provides an environment where members from diverse demographics, ethnic communities and those with additional needs or disabilities feel safe, involved and welcome.

At HideOut we celebrate diversity and champion inclusion. We want all young people to know there is a safe space for them a HideOut Youth Zone.

If you need to speak to our Inclusion Coordinator about anything, please contact: enquiries@empoweryouthzones.org

SUNDAY CLUB - MEMBERS WITH AN ADDITIONAL NEED OR DISABILITY

At HideOut, we try to make all our sessions accessible and open to all abilities.

Our Inclusion Team is fully trained to support young people with disabilities and additional needs. The team makes sure that each and every young person who attends can get involved in the activities they want to, regardless of ability.

Sunday Club however, is a time just for young people that identify as having a disability or additional needs.

JUNIORS: 11AM – 1PM

SENIORS: 12PM – 3PM

Before joining us on session, you are invited to our new members induction on the second Sunday of every month, 11.30am-12.30pm. Meet the team, have a tour of the building, learn more about the offer and have an informal chat about how we can best support your young person’s needs on session.

Activities include: Sports, Gym, Climbing, Arts & Crafts, Performing Arts, Music, Sensory Activities, Life Skills & Independence, Health & Wellbeing, Cooking and more!

Bespoke Projects: Supporting young people to access DofE, AQA Accreditations and lots more!

OUR APPROACH

HideOut Youth Zone have developed a model of working that takes into consideration any barriers that may prevent young people from joining in with activities and working to remove those barriers wherever possible.

Our work consists of:

  • Providing equipment and facilities (such as lifts).
  • Carrying out a structured induction for anyone who indicates they may have additional needs or support requirements.
  • Finding out what those support needs are and how we can best manage them within our setting and making support information available to all staff.
  • Providing accessible leisure opportunities.
  • Providing staff on specific nights to support young people through discussion, relationship building, structured activities and encouraging personal development skills.
  • Training staff in relevant areas towards how they can adapt activities to take ability into account.

LEVEL OF SUPPORT

If young people require additional support to access our opportunities, a discussion will take place as to how this can be arranged.

HideOut Youth Zone is unable to offer professional 1:1 support to young people attending sessions. Families are welcome to organise their own support worker or carer. Please read the Personal Assistant Information and Safeguarding Procedures here.

To ensure the young person gets the best experience at HideOut, members with disabilities that have a visual impairment, non-verbal or need personal care, would be best to attend with a support worker.

Those supporting a young person to attend the Youth Zone needs to have signed our PA agreement, which you can sign at reception. We ask that support workers provide a current full DBS to enable them to attend and follow the guidelines we have set in place for those adults who are supporting young people on premises.
